SEMINAR ON MONTREAL PROTOCOL: ADVANCING CLIMATE ACTION ARRANGED

The National Ozone Unit (NOU), Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination (MoCC&EC), through its Institutional Strengthening (IS) component with UNDP, organized a seminar titled “Montreal Protocol: Advancing Climate Action” to celebrate Pakistan’s progress in fulfilling its ozone recovery commitments and its steps toward meeting HCFC reduction targets by 2030.
The seminar brought together experts, policymakers, and youth to reaffirm collective commitment to ozone protection and accelerate climate action for a sustainable future. Key discussions covered Pakistan’s status under the Montreal Protocol and its linkages with climate change, implications of energy efficiency on HFC phase-down, and gender mainstreaming in climate change with a focus on the Montreal Protocol. Pakistani youth actively participated through quiz competitions, poster presentations, and cultural performances.
The event featured remarks and presentations from distinguished speakers, including Mr. Hammad Shamimi, Additional Secretary/NPD Montreal Protocol, MoCC&EC; Mr. Shiraz Ali Shah, Assistant Resident Representative, UNDP; Dr. Saleem Janjua, NPM, NOU; Prof. Dr. Uzaira Rafique, Pro Vice Chancellor, Fatima Jinnah Women University; Mr. Mahmood Akhtar Cheema, Country Representative, IUCN; and Mr. K.M. Zubair, Former Managing Director, ENERCON/NEECA, Ministry of Energy.
Participants collectively reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening climate action under the Montreal Protocol and working toward a healthier ozone layer for people and planet.
